A convict jailed at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa was caught pretending to be presumptive First Lady Lisa Araneta Marcos online to solicit donations from clueless netizens.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Special Action Unit said Ryan Ace Castillejo leads a group of scammers who take on the identities of prominent personalities to fleece money off people online.
Castillejo is serving time inside NBP for qualified theft.
NBI SAU head Jerome Bomediano said a Huawei cellphone unit was seized inside Castillejo’s cell at the NBP. He uses the gadget for scams.
Also found in Castillejo’s cell were notebooks containing the names of politikos and personalities he used in his modus. These include Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
Castillejo, who also uses the alias Jose Villafuerte, was tagged by an accomplice arrested by the NBI for allegedly pretending to be Marcos’ spokesperson, Vic Rodriguez, to solicit donations.
He supposedly enlisted the help of three other suspects to receive donations in various bank accounts.
Castillejo will be charged with identity theft and online fraud.
