Where are the national IDs?
Senator Grace Poe is dismayed with the long delay in the government’s delivery of national identification cards to the public.
Poe appealed to the Philippine Statistics Office to hasten the distribution of the single ID card to registered individuals, saying the six-month wait is unacceptable.
She expects the national ID program will hasten public transactions not only with the government but with private entities as well.
“Nananawagan tayo sa Philippine Statistics Authority na bilisan na ang pamamahagi ng National ID at tiyakin na wasto ang mga datos nito,” Poe said in a statement posted on her social media pages.
“Kung may ID na, mas mapapadali sana ang mga transakyon ng ating mga kababayan sa gobyerno at pribadong sektor,” she said.
She noted that more than half of the population registered for the national ID, showing the public giving the program a chance. She said the government must deliver the National ID to the citizens without further delay.
Last May, the PSA has delivered that over 10 million national IDs or PhilIDs nationwide. The agency however has drawn flak over the slow delivery of the IDs to people who registered months before.
