Revilla recognized by Nat’l Press Club for championing media freedom

The National Press Club (NPC) on Thursday awarded Senator Bong Revilla Jr. with a plaque of recognition for his “commendable performance” as chair of the Senate public information committee.

He was also recognized for shepherding the passage of Republic Act 11699 or the “National Press Freedom Day.”

NPC also led the conferment of the Plaque of Commendation from Office of the President – Presidential Task Force on Media Security to the Senator.

Revilla sponsored the measure that led to the celebration of Freedom of the Press every August 30 of every year, which coincides with the birth date of Gat. Marcelo H. Del Pilar, who is considered to be the Father of Philippine Journalism.

The senator was recognized for his “firm and determined effort in steering the enactment of the measure demonstrates not only his deep appreciation and understanding of the historical struggle of our journalists but also the important role they play in nation-building and upholding truth in our society.”

The award was presented to him in the Senate by NPC members Lydia Bueno, Paul Gutierrez, Leonel Abasola and Aya Yupangco.
