Headstand is no longer a difficult pose for this politiko.
Senator Pia Cayetano has managed to master the headstand after years of yoga practice.
According to the athlete-turned-senator, doing a headstand has become easy she does not force it. Cayetano, also a yoga teacher, shared some tips on how to do the headstand and other poses on Instagram while commemorating International Yoga Day on June 21.
“It took years to get comfortable doing a headstand without fear of falling over. But when I finally felt I got it, I realized it was easiest to do when I was most calm and not forcing it,” she said.
“And in many ways that’s why I love yoga, I have to unthink what my mind tells me I should do to get into a pose,” she said.
The same calm mindset can also be applied in day-to-day life, according to Cayetano. “This works well in life too- letting go and unlearning certain things sometimes helps bring clarity and better outcomes,” she said.
In the same Instagram post, the senator posted photos of her favorite yoga poses and places to practice. She said yoga poses don’t have to be complicated but stressed the importance of breathing .
“I became a yin yoga teacher last year but it only made me want to be a student more,” she said.
“It doesn’t have to be complicated. Breathing through the poses is probably the most important part,” she said.
