Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Naida Angping’s head is reportedly on the chopping block even before her husband, Harry, allegedly got involved in a sex scandal during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s recent trip to Thailand.
An Iskooper said politikos, businessmen and even Malacañang employees have been complaining about Angping’s ineptness and attitude since she assumed office on June 30.
The winner of the Miss Caltex beauty pageant in 1969, Angping has been derisively called by her subordinates a “beauty queen” because of her prima donna behavior. She’s reportedly rarely seen in Malacañang, and is always late when she shows up.
“Naida’s officemates call her ‘beauty queen’ when she’s not around because she acts like she’s royalty. She follows the President wherever he goes, probably to protect her territory,” the Iskooper said.
As PMS chief, Angping is responsible for providing staff assistance to Marcos, and monitoring and evaluating his priority programs. She also oversees the disbursement of the President’s social fund and other special allotments.
Part of Angping’s job is managing Marcos’ engagements and appointments. Yet a considerable number of people—from Batasan and Binondo—have complained that she has sat on their requests for a meeting with the President.
The Iskooper claimed Angping repeatedly snubbed the request of the powerful Pangasinan bloc for a meeting with Marcos.
The group, led by Stradcom Corp. owner and former Bayambang mayor Cezar Quiambao, wanted to sit down with the President to clarify rumors that their man, abogado Teofilo “Jojo” Guadiz III, would be replaced as Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief.
The Pangasinan bloc thought its request for a meeting would be easily granted considering the all out support that members gave to Marcos during the campaign period—from funds, warm bodies and even the use of a chopper.
The group was caught off guard when it was announced last week that Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade, the son of former Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, will lead LTO.
But perhaps the biggest thing working against Angping’s favor is her close association with disgraced former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez.
Angping used to be a close aide of the late Leyte Governor Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez, the father of House Speaker Martin Romualdez. She then worked her way to form her own power bloc with Rodriguez within Marcos’ inner circle.
Rodriguez, Angping and Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo, Marcos’ childhood best friend, formed the core selection committee which vetted applications to key government posts.
An Iskooper said Angping would likely be purged along with Rodriguez’s appointees by January next year. First Lady Liza Marcos Araneta is reportedly not a fan of the PMS chief, a sentiment only eclipsed by her loathing for Rodriguez.
“The First Lady has received reports of how Angping and her husband have been throwing their weight around since Naida got a Cabinet post,” the Iskooper said.
The proverbial nail on Angping’s coffin could possibly be Politiko’s report that her husband, former Manila Rep. Harry Angping, was arrested at the Marriott Marquis Queens Hotel in Bangkok for alleged sexual harassment of a hotel staffer.

Following Harry’s reported arrest, Angping and her baggage were allegedly offloaded from the presidential flight to Bangkok, where Marcos was due to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
