Former Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Vic Sotto and Joey De Leon, whose trio is known as TVJ, announced Wednesday (May 31) their departure from TAPE Incorporated, the producer of “Eat Bulaga!”
A replay episode of the popular noontime show aired on GMA Network. On the Facebook livestream of “Eat Bulaga!,” Tito said the hosts were barred from appearing live.
“Pumasok po kaming lahat ngayong araw para magtrabaho pero hindi po kami pinayagan ng new management na umere nang live,” he said.
The hosts thanked advertisers and viewers for their support for the past 44 years that “Eat Bulaga!” has been on air. They also expressed gratitude to the networks where it aired, namely: RPN, ABS-CBN and GMA.
Tito said they’re also thankful to TAPE’s former president and chief executive officer, Antonio Tuviera, for being a friend and treating them like family.
“Ito po siguro ang pinakamahirap na desisyon na ginawa namin simula 1979,” Vic said, referring to the year their trio debuted on “Eat Bulaga!”
“Ang hangad lang po namin ay makapagtrabaho nang mapayapa, walang inaagrabyado at may respeto sa bawat isa,” he added.
“Simula ngayong araw, May 31, 2023, kami po ay nagpapaalam na sa TAPE Incorporated,” Vic said, as he hinted that the public hasn’t seen the last of the trio.
“Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat. Hanggang sa muli…. Saan man kami dalhin ng tadhana, tuloy ang isang libo’t isang tuwa,” Vic added.
Tension has been brewing for months between TVJ and the family of former Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Romeo Jalosjos Sr., who owns TAPE Inc.
Last April, TAPE chief financial officer and Dapitan Mayor Bullet Jalosjos claimed that TVJ would stay on in “Eat Bulaga!” despite some production changes.
