Lawyers deny P8 million offer to Degamo slay suspects in exchange for recantations
Former Justice Undersecretary Reynante Orceo on Friday, June 2, denied offering P8 million to each of the detained suspects allegedly involved in the March 4 murder of Negros Oriental Governor
.
“This is purely hearsay,” said Orceo, who is the lawyer of detained suspect Marvin Miranda.
The lawyer responded to the allegations made by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla who alleged that the money was offered in exchange for the recantations of the testimonies of the detained suspects who said that they and Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. were involved in the killing of Degamo and nine persons in Pamplona, Negros Oriental last March 4.
“We only represent Miranda, all the other accused are represented by different counsels,” Orceo said.
“The recantations of all the other accused should be attributed to their respective counsels, not to us,” he added.
Lawyers Danny Villanueva and Jord Valenton have also denied the accusations made by Remulla.
“I will never do such a thing,” said Valenton.
While, Villanueva pointed out that it is impossible to make that offer since all of the detained suspects are in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
“Hindi mo pa alam kung naka record ang lahat ng pag-uusap nyo dahil naka paligid ang mga tao ng NBI habang nagkakausap ang mga nakapiit at mga abugado,” he said.
“‘Yung celpphone and gadgets and wallets iniiwan sa guard sa labas,” he added.
