The comedic trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey De Leon will appear on TV5 soon along with the “Dabarkads,” or other long-time hosts of Eat Bulaga! after signing an agreement with the Manny Pangilinan-owned network.
MediaQuest Holdings, the investment arm of PLDT which operates TV5, announced the deal with the triumvirate known as TVJ on Tuesday (June 7).
“The MediaQuest Group has entered into an agreement with Tito, Vic and Joey and the Dabarkads to produce content for TV5 and other Mediaquest platforms,” the statement from the Pangilinan-owned firm read.
“I’m honored that these pillars of the Philippine entertainment industry have agreed to work with us. Our partnership strengthens our ability to continue to deliver the best for Filipino viewers here at home and all over the world,” Mediaquest President and Chief Executive Officer Jane Basas said.
Mediaquest made the announcement a week after TVJ announced their exit from TAPE Inc., the production firm behind Eat Bulaga! which is owned by the family of former Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Romeo Jalosjos Sr. The comedians’ move subsequently led to the resignation of other existing hosts of the noontime show, such as Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, Paolo Ballesteros and Maine Mendoza.
Prior to their departure, TVJ had disagreements with TAPE in recent months over the future of Eat Bulaga.
On Monday (June 5), TAPE debuted a new Eat Bulaga featuring lesser known hosts such as Paolo Contis, Buboy Villar, Alexa Miro, and the twins Cassy and Mavy Legaspi.
