The beloved comedy trio of former Senate President Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon are back entertaining the Filipino audience on its new home network, TV5.
In a highly-anticipated return, TVJ and the legit Dabarkads proudly unveiled their new noontime variety show on Saturday before adoring viewers.
The popular trio opted to sing “Eat Bulaga” theme song in opening the program, but refrained from saying the iconic title. Instead, TVJ spelled out the word “E.A.T.” and made the “bulaga” gesture at the end of the opening jingle.
“Tuloy ang kwento nag paghahatid ng isang libo isang tuwa. Moving on, moving forward tayong lahat,” Vic said in his opening remarks.
TVJ and the group later gave their own meanings of “E.A.T.” during the program.
“Eto Ang Tunay,” said former Senator Tito, head of TVJ Productions Inc.
Joey and Vic, meanwhile, chose “Eto Ang Title.” It was Joey who coined the iconic title “Eat Bulaga” more than four decades ago.
TVJ reportedly plans to take legal action to secure the trademark of Eat Bulaga amid a conflict with TAPE Inc., producer of the show.
At the start of the new program, TVJ were overwhelmed with emotion amid the love and support from TV 5 network, advertisers, and especially viewers. As the show progressed, they expressed gratitude for the support and promised to bring more fun and entertainment to the audience.
“Dabarkads, hinihintay pa rin namin ang pag-uwi ng pangalan itinawag sa amin for almost 44 years,” Vic said about the “Eat Bulaga” name.
Joey, who shed tears the most during the show, is grateful for the love of the Filipino audience.
“Maraming pa record ang pwede natin gewin na magkakasama pero ang pinakamabigat na tumataktak sa amin…,” Joey said, stopping in the middle of the sentence.
Vic continued, “ay yung malaman namin na..”
“Mahal nyo kami,” Joey said, tearing up.
