Senator Mark Villar has denounced the shocking act of cruelty involving a mall guard who threw a defenseless puppy from an overpass.
Villar expressed deep concern about the heart-wrenching ordeal, insisting that no animal should ever be subjected to abuse.
A security guard was recently fired from his job at SM North Edsa after throwing a puppy from an overpass. The guard resorted to such action after several youngsters reportedly refused to leave the mall’s premises.
The puppy was rushed to a clinic by concerned individuals, but was reported dead on arrival due to injuries.
“We strongly condemn the recent act of cruelty on an innocent puppy which, caused its death. Our dogs or any animal for that matter doesn’t deserve any kind of abuse,” Villar wrote on his social media accounts.
Villar mentioned a pending bill on the adoption of stray and impounded animals amid concerns some animals left at local pounds are put down due to lack of space and resources.

“As part of our efforts in uplifting animal welfare, we filed Senate Bill No. 2257, or An Act Strengthening the Adoption of Stray and Impounded Animals,” Villar said.
When the incident became viral on social media, SM North Edsa released a statement expressing sadness over the incident. It has also called the attention of the security agency to conduct a probe while removing the guard involved.
“The Security Guard has been dismissed and is no longer allowed to service any of our malls nationwide,” the mall said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“As a pet-friendly establishment, we strongly condemn any acts that endanger or harm the lives of animals,” it added.
