NBI files murder raps vs Bantag

August 29, 2023

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday, Aug. 29, filed a murder complaint against former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag over the death of a New Bilibid Prison (NBP) inmate in 2020, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

“They put a plastic bag over his head upon orders of some characters,” said Remulla said about the killing of the inmate whom he identified as the DOJ chief.

Remulla identified the dead Bilibid inmate as Hegel Lapinig Samson who is behind the social media account “Leon Bilibid” that has been posting about “the mysterious happenings inside the Bilibid.

The DOJ chief said the NBI complaint named as respondents Bantag, former BuCor Deputy Security Officer Ricardo Zulueta, General Victor Erick Pascua, and Bilibid inmates Rolando Villaver, Mark Angelo Lampera, Charlie Dacuyan and Wendell Sualog.

The secretary noted that the four inmates confessed their participation to the crime.
