It turns out that veteran actress Janice Jurado was adored by a number of politikos including a former president.
Apart from revealing her six-year romance with the late actor Fernando Poe Jr., Jurado dropped another bombshell about her intriguing connection with late President Fidel V. Ramos.
The actress talked about her display-only relationship with Ramos when he was still a military chief in the latest episode of broadcaster Julius Babao’s YouTube program on Friday, September 1.
When asked by Babao if she had other relationships with businessmen or politicians, Jurado confessed: “Meron. Politiko meron. Patay na.”
“Oo, presidente. Dating presidente,” she said, before admitting her ties with Ramos.
Jurado however was quick to clarify that her relationship with Ramos was purely for display. Love was not in the cards, and that it was all about friendship.
“Dini-display ka lang,” she said about her relationship with Ramos. “Wala ‘yung dadalhin ka sa kwarto.”
She spilled the beans on how Ramos used to invite her to social gatherings and even sent her clothing to up her style game.
“Lahat ng mga parties, lahat ng okasyon, pagandahan ng girlfriend. Companionship lang,” she said, explaining the nature of her relationship with Ramos.
When Ramos invited her to attend an event at the Manila Peninsula Hotel, she arrived with some actresses. She claimed people knew she was Tabako’s lady.
“Hanggang doon lang. ‘O sige hatid na ninyo ang mga babae.’ Ganun lang yun. Kasi kasama nila mga misis nila eh,” she said.
Jurado also joined Ramos for his morning jogs in Manila in the past. “Tatakbo kami, mag-e-exercise. Para lang makita na kasama niya ako,” she said.
When asked if she was ever in love with Ramos, Jurado said: “Hindi kasi kaibigan nga lang. Kaibigan lang talaga.”
On whether they were still seeing each when Ramos became president, Jurado said they did. However by that time, former First Lady Ming Ramos was aware of their friendship, and she was not the least bothered.
“Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Hindi po kayo nagagalit?’ Nag-invite pa si Ming sa bahay tapos pinatawag ako. ‘Don’t worry. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. Alam ko naman walang mangyayari.’ Sabi niyang ganoon. Hindi po kayo galit sa akin? ‘Hindi ka naman katulad ng iba na nangsusugod ganito, ganyan.”
“Tanggap niya. Ang bait niya. Mabait si Madam, sobrang bait,” Jurado added.
She explained that befriending Ramos was more for her “protection.”
“Ako naman ang aking punto ko naman doon kaya ko siya kinaibigan, sabihin na natin proteksyon sa akin. Kailangan ko ‘yung tao sa gobyerno, worse comes to worst, may nambastos, may nangyari sa kapatid kong lalaki, di ba, mayroon ako malalapitan.”
Ramos, who served as the country’s president from 1992 to 1998, passed away on July 31, 2022. He served as the military chief from 1986 to 1988 during the Aquino administration.
