Arroyo camp unfazed by Malampaya graft complaint: She has 'done no wrongdoing'

The camp of former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will respond to the complaint filed before the Office of the Ombudsman ”in due time.”

In a statement, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, counsel for Arroyo said that they have not yet received an official copy of the complaint and became aware of it through the media.

“We have not yet received any official copy of the complaint or complaints, so we cannot make any specific comments as of this time. Suffice it to state that based on newspaper reports, the complainant admits that the funds concerned were used for public purposes. Therefore, in accordance with settled legal principles, Pres. Arroyo has done no wrongdoing during her term, and we are confident that these charges will be proven false, in the same manner that other accusations made before them have been shown to be baseless,” the statement said.

“We trust in the justice system, and we shall answer the charges in due time,” it added.

The complaint was filed by the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms Inc. (Nasecore) and the Boses ng Konsyumer Alliance Inc. (BKAI) in connection with the alleged irregularities in the use of Malampaya fund during her tenure as President.
