The British Embassy in Manila hosted a commemorative event on 14th November to honor His Majesty King Charles III as the Head of State of the United Kingdom.
The occasion marked a significant historical moment, as the last King’s Birthday Party in the UK was celebrated back in 1951. Born on 14th November 1948, King Charles III ascended the throne on 6th May 2023, followed by a momentous Coronation, a rare occurrence in a generation, witnessed by global leaders, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Marcos.
At the British Ambassador’s Residence, the King’s Birthday Party seamlessly blended tradition with a modern touch.
The event showcased speeches from British Ambassador Laure Beaufils and Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Antonio Morales.
The British School Manila choir performed both the British and Philippine national anthems, which led to a symbolic cake cutting bearing the royal insignia of His Majesty. Music performances by students from the British School Manila capped off the official proceedings.
Highlighting the occasion were signature cuisines and beverages from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Attended by around 500 guests, including dignitaries from the Philippine government, influential business personalities, and eminent figures from various fields, the celebration represented the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
In her remarks, Ambassador Laure Beaufils remarked, “In celebrating the birthday of His Majesty the King, we acknowledge the diverse and robust connections between the UK and the Philippines and our people. The bond between our countries holds promising prospects for the future, rooted in robust partnerships and shared values. I take pride in our collaborative efforts towards fostering a safer, greener, and more prosperous world.”
