After 4 years! College students in Yolanda-hit areas get P5K cash aid from CHED


College students from areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013 will finally get a one-time P5,000 financial assistance from the government.

This, after the Commission on Higher Education signed the implementing rules and regulations for the use of P540 million in funds for Yolanda-hit areas which were not utilized in 2016.

CHED Commissioner Prospero De Vera on Tuesday (June 20) said the amount covers all students in Yolanda-hit areas from private and public schools.

“The Office of the President instructed CHED to expedite the use of this money. So we are ready to… We are sending notices to all the public and private universities in Yolanda- affected areas that the money will be available to them,” he said at a press briefing in Malacanang.

Typhoon Yolanda affected Southern Luzon and the Visayas group of islands in November 2013.

De Vera said students can avail themselves of the financial assistance starting this month as soon as the the schools complete the necessary paperwork.
