THE Presidential Security Group (PSG) on Wednesday confirmed that eight of its personnel who are assigned at the Office of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).
In a statement, PSG chief Col. Jesus Durante said Medialdea tested negative for the illness.
The virus-hit PSG members included two officers and six enlisted personnel, according to Durante, noting that they did not have any close contact with President Rodrigo Duterte.
He assured the public of Duterte’s safety, saying those who were assigned to the chief executive are consistently being tested for Covid-19.
“The President’s close-in security personnel further endure being at a separated billeting area to limit their contact even from their comrades and loved ones just to lessen exposure and to ultimately ensure that they do not become the threats, themselves,” said Durante.
“[We] remain steadfast in being a 360-degree shield for the President and the seat of central power in the country,” he added.
