Duterte sure De Lima will land in jail: ‘Makukulong siya’

It’s only a matter of time, but President Rodrigo Duterte is certain Senator Leila de Lima will end up behind bars.

In his speech before members of the media in Malacañang Monday (Sept. 26), Duterte attributed De Lima’s doggedness to investigate the alleged extrajudicial killings happening under his watch to the sticky situation she has found herself in after “screw[ing] her driver and screw[ing] the nation.”

“Nung naiipit na, gusto niya akong idamay,” he said.

Duterte, however, believes De Lima will soon go to jail because National Bureau of Investigation officials and inmates from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) have both testified to her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade inside the national penitentiary.

“Makukulong man talaga iyan siya, sigurado iyan because of the testimonial evidence. Makukulong ito when everybody says, five or six could say that they contributed money. So on a national scale and even—who brought in the narco-politics, it is here already,” he said.

The President accused De Lima of financing her senatorial campaign with drug money.

The NBI officials and NBP inmates had been presented as witnesses by the Department of Justice (DOJ) during the House of Representatives’ investigation on the drug trade inside the national penitentiary last Sept. 20 and 21.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said the DOJ is now in the process of building a case against De Lima over her alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
