United States Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton is now in the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), said Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag on Friday (Sept. 11).
Chaclag said that at around 11:50 a.m. Friday “the custody of Mr Pemberton has been transferred completely to the BID.”
“BuCor staff assigned as custodial officers at the Jusmag extension facility were now pulled out and reassigned to other facilities,” he said.
“There are no more BuCor officers involved in the custody of Mr. Pemberton,” he added.
Pemberton has been been detained in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City since being convicted in 2015 for the 2014 killing of transgender Jennifer Laude.
Sentenced to imprisonment ranging from six to 10 years, Pemberton was recently granted absolute pardon by President Rodrigo Duterte.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente earlier said that Pemberton will be deported.
Morente revealed that BI’s board of commissioner issued a summary deportation order “against Pemberton on Sept. 16, 2015 for being an undesirable alien.”
