Ayaw makisama? Koko no-show at majority’s meeting on Sotto’s takeover

Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III did not attend the majority bloc’s meeting on Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III’s takeover of his post, Politiko has learned.

According to a source, only nine senators were present at the meeting Wednesday night (May 9), which was held at Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri’s house in Makati.

They are: Sotto, Zubiri, and Senators Panfilo Lacson, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Joel Villanueva, Cynthia Villar, Sherwin Gatchalian, Nancy Binay and Sonny Angara.

Aside from Pimentel, however, four lawmakers did not attend the meeting. They are Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, and Senators Grace Poe, Loren Legarda, and Richard Gordon.

Pimentel and Sotto have been tight-lipped about the change in leadership, despite rumors about the takeover in the past few weeks.

Villar, however, recently confirmed that Sotto will replace Pimentel since the latter will be focusing on his reelection bid in 2019.
