ABS-CBN news chief Regina Reyes told lawmakers on Monday that ABS-CBN’s Integrated News and Current Affairs Division is not a perfect news organization that also “commits mistakes.”
“Pero tulad ng ibang bahagi ng aming kumpanya, hindi po kami perpekto. Wala pong news organization na perpekto. Sa kabila ng mga pag-iingat at pagbabantay ay inaamin po naming nagkakamali rin po kami,” she said.
“Gayunpaman, agad din po kaming umaaksyon para itama ang mali. And we have mechanisms for handling mistakes committed in the performance of our duty,” Reyes said during the 12th hearing on ABS-CBN’s franchise application.
The joint House panel on legislative franchises and good government is still deliberating on whether or not to give ABS-CBN a new 25-year-franchise, after it closed down on May 5.
“Since our return to air in 1986, we have endeavored to perform our duty as a news organization. As professional journalists, we strive to keep biases in check and to report on newsworthy events, persons and issues in an accurate, fair & balanced manner,” Reyes said.
“We know that as we hold power to account, we ourselves are accountable to the public we serve,” she said.
“We uphold this accountability and responsibility as vigorously as we uphold press freedom, freedom of expression, and free speech,” Reyes said.
