‘Absurd’ sedition case & ABS-CBN quo warranto petition! Trillanes slams Duterte for weaponizing law vs political opposition
Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has accused President Duterte of trying to suppress his political opponents and the media.
Trillanes said the sedition case filed by the government against him as well as quo warranto petition against ABS-CBN television were totally absurd.
Trillanes is one among the personalities indicted for conspiracy to commit sedition over an alleged ouster plot against President Duterte.
The Lopez-owned television network also faces a quo warranto case before the Supreme Court for alleged violations of its franchise. The case was filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
“This latest absurd case is but another proof that the Duterte administration continues to weaponize the law against the political opposition, critics and the media,” he said in a Facebook post.
Despite the latest government action, Trillanes said the fight for democracy and human rights will continue.
“But let me assure Mr. Duterte that we will not be cowed by such political persecution. On the contrary, we are more determined and motivated to continue our fight for democracy and the rights of our people,” he said.
