ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro on Friday urged House leaders to investigate the alleged massive corruption in the use of confidential funds by the Department of Information and Communications Techology after the resignation of Undersecretary Eliseo Rio Jr.
The Makabayan solon also urged the DICT to disclose how it spent its confidential funds.
“The Department of Information and Communications Technology should disclose how it spent its confidential funds following Rio’s exposé,” Castro said.
“Usec Rio revealed that DICT’s funds were use for surveillance, something which is beyond the mandate of the agency. His reports prove what we have been saying all along—that intelligence and confidential funds, especially the billions lodged in the Office of the President, are so untransparent that they can be spent for even shady purposes, without the people knowing where exactly these funds go and how they were used,” she said.
“We urge the House leadership to investigate the use of intelligence and confidential funds in DICT,” Castro said.
“We also urge the Office of the President and defense and police agencies, the holders of the biggest chunks of black budget, to disclose how they spent their confidential and intelligence funds,” added the solon.
“We also urge the Commission on Audit to conduct a special audit on these shady funds,” Castro said.
