After Indonesia moves capital to Borneo, Gatchalian seeks transfer of seat of PH gov’t to Clark
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has pushed for the transfer of the seat of national government from Manila to Clark to ease congestion in the capital.
Gatchalian made the proposal after Indonesian President Joko Widodo formally proposed a plan to move the country’s capital from the crowded Jakarta to the island of Borneo.
The proposed creation of the new capital in Kalimantan was made by Widodo in a speech before the parliament.
“Indonesia will finally move its capital to a different island to drive growth outside of Jakarta and reduce traffic! It’s a signal for us to move our seat of government to Clark New City,” Gatchalian tweeted.
The Senator earlier filed Senate Bill 876 seeking to transfer the seat of power to Clark amid the worsening congestion in Metro Manila.
