Aguirre orders NBI probe on destab plot
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has instructed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the destablization plot being hatched by the opposition.
In Department Order No. 385, Aguirre told the NBI that “it “directed and granted authority to conduct investigation and case build-up over the alleged destablization plot against the government of the Republic of the Philippines by some Senators and other opposition leaders, and if evidence warrants, to file the appropriate cases against those who may be found liable.”
“Further, Director [Dante] Gierran shall submit a report to the Office of the Secretary of Justice on its current activities related to the implementation of this Order,” said Aguirre.
“This Order takes effect immediately and shall remain in force until further orders,” he added.
The Secretary gave the order after receiving reports that opposition members including some lawmakers went to Marawi City prior the attacks of the Maute terrorist group as part of their destablization plans.
Sources said that the reports Aguirre received came from Council for Philippine Affairs secretary general Pastor Boy Saycon.
