Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is firm about not seeking the presidency in 2022 despite topping a recent voter preference survey on potential candidates.
Sara told Reuters that she will not run for president even at the last minute, like what her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, did in 2016.
“I am not being coy nor am I doing a last minute. If the whole country doesn’t want to believe that, then I can’t do anything about it. Not everyone wants to be president. I am one of them,” she said.
“I thank all of them for their trust and confidence in what I can do but my refusal to run for president is not the end of the world,” the presidential daughter added.
Sara topped Pulse Asia’s survey late last year on potential presidential candidates. However, she said she was not interested in running for president and asked pollsters to exclude her name from choices in future surveys.
On Thursday (January 14), Duterte said he’s discouraging Sara from running because he doesn’t want her to experience what he’s going through.
“Hindi ito pambabae. Alam mo the emotional setup of a woman and a man is totally different. Maging gago ka dito,” the President said.
