Ain’t off the hook yet! Hontiveros: Albayalde’s exit shouldn’t spell end of ‘ninja cops’ scandal
Senator Risa Hontiveros doesn’t want former Philippine National Police chief General Oscar Albayalde to quietly slip into retirement after relinquishing his post Monday (October 14).
Hontiveros said Albayalde’s early exit shouldn’t spell the end of the controversy over the so called “ninja cops,” or policemen who allegedly resell seized illegal drugs.
“Ang desisyon ni General Albayalde na magbitiw sa kanyang pwesto ay hindi nangangahulugan na tapos na ang isyu ukol sa mga ‘ninja cops’ at iba pang tiwaling pulis na sangkot sa pagbebenta ng droga at katiwalian,” she said in a statement.
Hontiveros considers Albayalde her “mistah” since her late husband, Francisco Baraquel Jr., is a member of Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986, to which the former PNP chief belongs.
Albayalde stepped down from his post amid allegations that he tried to protect 13 policemen who were ordered dismissed after conducting an anti-drug operation in Pampanga which was supposedly riddled with irregularities.
