The party-list coaltion will definitely use its “strength in numbers” to ensure that its members are no longer treated as second-class citizens in the House of Representatives, Assistant Majority Floor Leader and Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Partylist Rep. Jericho Nograles said.
Nograles statement came as the 54-man bloc now headed by 1-Pacman party-list Rep. Mikee Romero is expected to vote as one bloc in the highly-contested Speakership race in the upcoming 18th Congress.
Aside from seeking equal treatment, Nograles said the Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) also seeks “key positions” in the House leadership for its members.
“The PCFI is hoping to get at least 20 percent of the Chairpersonships of all Standing Committees and Special Committees, as well as the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) and the Commission on Appointments (CA),” he said.
The Davao-based solon believed that the group would play a crucial role in choosing the next Speaker in July especially in the event of a “free-for-all” fight for the House leadership.
The party-list coalition is currently the second biggest bloc in the upcoming new Congress with 54 members, and next only to the ruling administration party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban).
