Senator Alan Peter Cayetano apparently placed so much faith in outgoing Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte that he not only presented himself to be the Mindanao politiko’s running mate, but also contributed millions to his campaign kitty.
Duterte’s Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) submitted Wednesday (June 8) to the Commission on Elections showed he received a total of P375,009,474.90 in contributions, composed of P298,363,792 in cash and P76,705,682.90 in kind.
Of the individuals who contributed in kind, Cayetano stood out with the largest donation through tandem advertisements amounting to around P71.2 million.
The tandem’s TV commercials featured the tagline, “Matapang na Solusyon, Mabilis na Aksyon.”
Another prominent politiko included in Duterte’s list of contributors is former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, who spent P3.14 million for tandem ads with the President-elect.
Tolentino lost in the 2016 senatorial race, placing 13th.
Duterte’s campaign was largely funded by donors. He only spent P200,000 of his own money to win the national elections.
