Albayalde blasts ‘Ang Probinsyano’ over negative portrayal of PNP chief: Ako pa ang masama!
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has taken offense at the negative portrayal of the country’s top cop in ABS-CBN’s hit primetime television series, “Ang Probinsyano.”
Albayalde on Thursday (November 15) said the negative portrayal of the PNP chief and the police force on the show has taken a toll on the PNP’s image.
In the series, the PNP chief was depicted as the mastermind of the assasination plot against the president.
“When you involve the chief PNP himself, it will drag the whole organization already na kung ginagawa no less than the chief PNP, he is a villain what would you expect,” he said.
Albayalde said the show’s impact on the PNP’s image is magnified because its characters wear police uniforms.
“They wear our uniform, otherwise kung ibang units sana or not the PNP. They are wearing the uniform. Yun lang naman ang sa atin, a little respect probably,” he said.
Despite ABS-CBN’s statement that all characters and events on “Ang Probinsyano” are fictional, Albayalde said the network should exercise “social responsibility” in conceptualizing its shows.
He, however, said he is not calling for the series’ cancellation.
“What we want to is audience lang so we can give our views also at hindi lang naman kami,” the PNP chief said.
