Alejano: Jolo blast meant to sow fear and terror, upset BOL
Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano said on Monday the bombing of Jolo Cathedral in Sulu province was aimed at upsetting the peace process in Mindanao following the plebiscite for the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).
“Happening a few days after the plebiscite for the Bangsamoro Organic Law, it suggests that the bombing is meant to upset the peace efforts in the Mindanao region,” the Magnificent 7 lawmaker said in a statement.
“This dastardly act committed in a public place before a religious gathering is clearly an effort to sow fear and terror,” he said.
The Sunday morning blast killed more than 20 people and injured several others.
“I strongly condemn the bombing at the Jolo Cathedral in Sulu this morning which killed and injured civilians and soldiers. My condolences and prayers go to the families of the victims,” said Alejano.
The former Navy officer called on all relevant authorities to “thoroughly investigate the incident and swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators.”
“I also enjoin the cooperation of the public for the safety of each and everyone,” Alejano said.
“It is unfortunate that in spite of the Martial Law in whole of Mindanao, such terrorist acts continue to happen. I hope that intelligence gathering will be intensified and focused military operations be conducted when needed,” he said.
