Alejano: SWS poll shows Pinoys want drug suspects captured alive
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano on Monday said a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed that a large majority of Filipinos want authorities to arrest drug suspects alive instead of bloody Tokhang operations.
“This particular survey is a manifestation that Filipinos want drug offenders to undergo due process. Naniniwala ang taumbayan na dapat may hustiya para sa lahat,” the senatorial candidate said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, our government does not consider this. The Palace even boasted about one of the results of the survey which states that majority of Filipinos see fewer drug offenders. We should take no pride in thousands of cases of extra-judicial killings,” Alejano said.
The December 2018 survey revealed that 95 percent of Filipinos think it is important to capture drug trade suspects alive while 87 percent believes that the authorities should capture them alive.
“Of course, we want the drug problem in our country to end.
Meanwhile, Alejano urged the government to consider the drug problem as a public health issue.
“This drug problem should be viewed holistically.
