All-American girl! Tiglao outs Ressa as a New York resident who votes in US polls
Rappler Chief Executive Officer Maria Ressa may look like a Filipino and have a Philippine passport, but she’s an American citizen in every sense of the word.
Arroyo-era Cabinet Secretary Bobi Tiglao has shared details about Ressa’s life in the US to prove she’s more of a foreigner than a Filipino.
In his March 6 column for the Manila Times, Tiglao said Ressa “has voted in nearly all US national elections, the last one on Nov. 18, 2016 for the presidential elections that year.”
“She has never voted in Philippine elections,” he added.
Citing information from her supposed US voter’s registration record, Tiglao said Ressa’s residence “is in an upper-class suburb in Monroe, Orange County in New York. The median income in Ressa’s neighborhood is $160,000, according to US census data, putting her in the top 8-percent income bracket in the US.”
Ressa’s double life, however, isn’t confined to the US. Tiglao said documents submitted by Rappler to the Securities and Exchange Commission showed Ressa’s address as Antel Global Center, the website’s first office.
However, Tiglao said his sources told him that Ressa “lives in a posh Bonifacio Global Village condominium, where the rent is at least P150,000 per month.”
Tiglao said Ressa only got a Philippine passport in 2004 to work at ABS-CBN, where she worked as the head of the News and Current Affairs Division until 2010.
