Alma Moreno gives sermon to Pacquiao: Stop using religion to condemn gays
Former sexy actress and Paranaque councilor Alma Moreno lashed out at Manny Pacquiao for the latter’s statement comparing gays to animals.
“Nirerespeto ko si Cong Manny Pacquiao, lalo na sa karangalan na dala niya sa ating bayan, at alam kong mabuti siyang tao at Kristiyano, pero paumanhin sa kanya, but I will have to disagree don sa sinabi niya na mas masahol pa sa hayop ang same-sex relationships,” Moreno said.
Moreno urged Pacquiao not to use religion to discriminate against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Moreno gave a sermon to Pacquiao even thought both of them are running as senator under Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance.
“Whatever ang ating personal na paniniwala, di ito dapat maging basehan para insultuhin ang kapwa. We are accountable only for our own actions,” Moreno said.
Moreno said she has friends from the LGBT who are decent and responsible tax payers and professionals.
“Ang dami kong kilala na mga gay na napaka decente, na nagbabayad ng tamang buwis, na maraming na-iambag sa industriya at sa iba’t ibang larangan tulad ng business, akademya, at pati na sa politika. Kaya I think, at the very least, they deserve our respect,” Moreno said.
Pacquiao received flak on social media for his stance, led by television personality Vice Ganda and LGBT group Ladlad who called Pacquiao a bigot, a “numbskull,” and a false prophet for calling the gays worse off than animals.
In an interview with TV-5 for its “Bilang Pilipino” elections coverage, Pacquiao said that same sex couples are worse than animals.
“Common sense lang. Makakakita ka ba ng any animals na lalaki sa lalakI, babae sa babae? Mas mabuti pa yung hayop. Marunong kumilala kung lalaki, lalaki, o babae, babae,” Pacquiao said.
“Kung lalaki sa lalaki, babae sa babae, eh mas masahol pa sa hayop ang tao,” the boxer, who was also a born-again pastor, added.
Pacquiao has apologized for comparing gays to animals, but he said he is still against same sex marriage.
Pacquiao has also said he is only against the sexual act between the same gender and not the persons of the LGBT.
US sports equipment Nike has dropped Pacquiao as endorser following the backlash on his anti-gay remarks.
