President Rodrigo Duterte has accused the Catholic Church of blocking the broader sale of an explosive book on sexual abuses, corruption and influence peddling of Filipino bishops and priests.
Duteret said he stocked up on “Altar of Secrets” (written by the late investigative journalist Aries Rufo and published in 2013) so that he could distribute copies during his public appearances.
“I don’t know if there are still… Because they are trying to control the publication… You will find it difficult to acquire a copy. You can’t buy it in stores. The priests probably warned them,” said Duterte in a speech in Cagayan de Oro.
“I have lost my respect for them (bishops and priests) and that is why I am distributing copies of this. I have plenty of copies at home,” he added.
Duterte said the first three pages alone tackled the inside story about a powerful bishop who sired three children. “”P***** i** ‘yun. Hindi ‘yan bilib ha, tingnan mo kung sinong — whoever wants to pick that book up. You know, you Catholics, the priests, all I want is to tell the people about me and the truth,” said Duterte.
“Let the truth — ‘yung inyong baho at baho ko. I’m the only politician in the history of the Philippines who ever cursed you and said you are sons of b******. Eh umabuso kayo eh. You have been abusing the faithful for several centuries. Sa libro ng p***** i****… Are there any more?” he added.
