Ang Probinsyano party-list solon taps Benguet farmers for COVID relief drive in Pasig, Valenzuela

Party-list Rep. Ronnie Ong has tapped vegetable farmers from Benguet Province for his upcoming relief drive to aid households affected by the Luzon lockdown due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) policy.
Ong, representative of Ang Probinsyano Party-list group, said he already secured truck loads of vegetables from the country’s so-called “Salad Bowl” through the help of some generous individuals from the private sector.
Ong said the purchased vegetables will be donated to the city government of Pasig and Valenzuela for their indigent residents affected by the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Ong, the programs will help two segments of the society—the farmers and individuals who need food.
“It’s a win-win situation. Natulungan na yung mga veggie farmers na naghihikahos dahil hirap makatawid sa mga borders due to lockdown at the same time mapapakain natin yung mga nagugutom,” said Ong.
Ong stressed that he decided the donate the vegetable goods to the local government units (LGUs) due to their existing “mobile palengke” programs in which the fesidents get their food supplies during the lockdown from rolling stores being manned by the said city governments to prevent congestions of public markets amid the social distancing policy due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Last week, Ong has tapped the services of several UV Express vans which would provide free transportation for health care workers—which will not only make life easier for doctors and medical staff who have to walk for hours to go to work because of the unavailability of public transport but it would also provide livelihood for the hundreds of UV Express drivers who were economically displaced because of the Luzon lockdown.
