Reelectionist Senator Sonny Angara brought his “Alagang Angara” platform to Hongkong over the weekend.
Angara was in Hongkong to meet and greet Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) last Sunday, March 31, ahead of the overseas absentee voting set to start on April 13.
During his meeting with our countrymen in the Chinese territory, he enumerated the pro-OFW legislation that he co-authored or advocated for, like free college, health care, the new Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA)law, extension of the validity of passports, higher tax exempt value of balikbayan boxes, Seafarers Protection Act, and repatriation.
He said through these laws, OFWs are now provided with tangible and concrete government support and not just lip service.
The lawmaker said “Kung dati po laway lang, ngayon po ay may bago kayong karapatan sa ilalim ng batas at kahit wala na po si Senator Angara, nandyan pa rin po sa batas ang inyong karapatan.”
After wooing the OFWs, Angara gamely posed for selfies with his supporters.
