Interior Secretary Eduardo Año is not in favor of extending the enhance community quarantine beyond its scheduled lifting on April 13.
“Hindi advisable pahabain ang lockdown,” said Año in an interview with DZBB.
Año made the statement after presidential adviser on entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion warned that extending the lockdown to May or June could be fatal to the economy and he suggested that lockdown be reduced to the barangay with mass virus testing conducted to give confidence to businesses and consumers to resume business as usual.
Año said the last two weeks of the lockdown in Metro Manila and Luzon would be critical to the Inter Agency Task Force’s decision whether to end or extend.
“Pag ang positive cases tumaas sa 5,000 or 10,000, ang ibig lang sabihin marami talagang matigas ang ulo na sumusuway sa lockdown,” said Año.
Año said the number of positive cases and deaths could likely increase in the last two weeks of the lockdown but he was confident it wouldn’t be at alarming rates.
He said the lockdown was meant to ensure that the virus would not spread and that those who have it, over 80 percent were asymptomatic, would be cured of the virus naturally during isolation. “Hindi naman siya deadly, malakas lang makapanghawa…kaya ang new normal natin ay mag-suot ng face mask at social distancing,” said Año.
