Senior citizens may receive doses from China’s Sinovac vaccine according to the government’s Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP), Malacañang announced Wednesday.
In a brief statement, Palace Spokesman Harry Roque said the VEP has green-lighted the use of CoronaVac for individuals aged 60 or older.
“We confirm that the Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP) has recommended the use of Sinovac vaccine for the elderly/senior citizens,” according to Roque.
“The VEP thoroughly discussed the matter amid the current vaccine supply in the country and we hope that this would respond/address the present demand of vaccines,” he also said.
The Philippine Food and Drug Administration previously discouraged the use of the Chinese vaccine on healthcare workers and senior citizens due to its lower efficacy rate.
