House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Friday facilated the opening of the crossborder pipeline at the corner of West avenue corner Bulacan Street, in Quezon City to finally address the water shortage in the areas under the control of Manila Water Company.
“It’s (the water) gonna flow now to the other side,” said Arroyo.
Arroyo said the opening of the cross border pipe will finally enable Maynilad to supply water to concessionaires of Manila Water who are currently experiencing shortfall in their households.
Maynilad President Ramon Fernandez said opening the cross border pipe was the “fastest way to transfer water from West Zone to East Zone.”
He said the other points will require minor laying unlike the one on Bulacan Street which only needs the opening of the valve.
Fernandez explained that the opening of the cross border valve will allow some 10-million liters of water to immediately flow to the East Zone every day.
Arroyo had earlier held a briefing with MWSS officials to determine the extent of the problem in the East Zone.
The president of the Manny V. Pangilinan-led Maynilad said the opening of the cross-border pipe was away to helpd the Ayala-controlled Manila Water to cope with the water problem in its area.
“Ito pong linya na ito Maynilad line na magbibigay po sa Manila Water. Nagkataon lang po na may kaunting surplus sa Maynilad ito itutulong namin sa Manila Water isa lang ito sa initially five na location na naidentify namin nagkataon po na ito yung pinakamabilis na mabubuksan parte
The water crisis in the East Zone, according to the management of Manila Water, was reportedly due to the increased demand of its consumers.
