Arroyo shrugs off zero-billing proposal: That’s MWSS business —we want solutions
House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was noncommittal when asked to react to proposals to compel Manila Water Co. not to bill households affected by the water interruptions since March 6, saying the House is more concerned with actual solutions.
“I don’t want to get involved in those proposals,” she said in an ambush interview at Manila Hotel, where she had a speaking engagement.
“For me my as far as the congressional oversight is concerned we want to see the solutions immediate, short term and long term soon,” the former President said.
Arroyo earlier called for House inquiries on the water crisis this week, first under the committee on Metro Manila development on Monday, and then the committee on public accounts on Wednesday.
“There’s something moving forward and i don’t want to get into those proposals like that that’s among them,” she said.
“I read from the papers that the regulator wants to do that, that’s their business,” she said, referring to the regulatory office of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System..
“What we’d like to see is the water coming back to the tap so we’d like to see that and I think we don’t need to have further hearings anymore,” Arroyo said.
The Speaker said she would ask the House panels to terminate the hearings on the issue.
“So we had already our briefing and i think that’s it. I’m going to ask the Congress to terminate already the hearings because they’ve already heard what they have to hear for the immediate term,” Arroyo said.
