As Amazon burns, Zubiri bats for shift from coal to renewable energy
Amid the wildfire ravaging the Amazon rainforest considered the lungs of the planet, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri made a strong pitch for the development and use of renewable energy in the country.
Zubiri called for a shift away from coal use after accepting the UP Distinguished Alumni Award for Enterprise Development in Renewable Energy during a recent ceremony back in his alma mater.
“Thank you so much to the UP Alumni Association for awarding me the Distinguished Alumni Award for Enterprise Development in Renewable Energy. It is an absolute Honor to receive this award from the whole UP System,” he said in a Facebook post.
“My commitment to push for Renewable Energy remains stronger than ever as we have to shift our base load plants from Coal to Renewable Energy. Most especially now that our Earth’s lung, the Amazon, is burning at a dangerous rate as there might not be any more forest left to absorb the carbon in the atmosphere. Thank you again my dear Alma Mater 🇵🇭” the senator added.
