The budget needed to finance the additional pension and gratuity fund (PGF) of retired military and uniformed personnel (MUP) was included in the Bayanihan to Arise As One (Bayanihan 3).
House Deputy Minority Leader and Marikina Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo said the P54.6 billion PGF was requested by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
“Ni-request ito ng DBM… kung sumusubaybay kayo sa mga ganap sa House ito ‘yung na-cut doon sa 2020 (budget) so kailangan natin i-restore ‘yan kasi utang natin ‘yan sa mga sundalong nag-retire, talagang we cannot avoid that, kailangang mabayaran,” Quimbo said.
Quimbo was referring to the reduction made by the House of Representatives on the PGF under the 2020 national budget.
She said the fund will be serve as morale boosters to soldiers who are part of the frontliner workers.
“Actually ang mga sundalo natin also considered as one of the frontliners and magandang morale booster ‘yun na kung ikaw ay sundalo and as a front liner ka, at alam mong inaalagaan ka ng gobyerno sa iyong pag-retire, malaking morale booster din ‘yun. So tingin ko related pa rin siya sa COVID response in that way,” Quimbo explained.
