Former Manila Mayor and incumbent Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza has taken Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno to task for the construction of the controversial Torre de Manila condominium building near Luneta.
Speaking to Radyo Inquirer on Saturday, Atienza noted that property developer DMCI would not have proceeded with the construction of Torre de Manila had the city council, led by Moreno, not given its officials the necessary permits.
“Tama ba itong ginawa ng city council? Kinuha nila ang kapangyarihan. Sila ang nag-aapruba ng mga building permit,” he said.
Incumbent Manila mayor Joseph Estrada earlier said it was during the term of his predecessor, Alfredo Lim, that the permits for Torre de Manila’s construction were approved. Moreno was already the vice mayor at that time.
The Supreme Court recently issued a temporary restraining order stopping the construction of Torre de Manila, which has been called the “Pambansang Photobomber” because it mars the vista or skyline of Jose Rizal’s monument in Luneta.
