The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) has made a tactical retreat as it clarified that it was not asking the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate Vice President Leni Robredo.

PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica claimed that fellow PACC Commissioner Manuelito Luna’s call for the National Bureau of Investigation to probe Robredo was just a “personal opinion”

“PACC is not asking anyone to investigate VP Leni Robredo. On the other hand, we are thankful to everyone who are helping the front liners and the needy including the VP,” Belgica said in his statement.

“This is not the time for politicking. We are not concerned with any personality. We are not asking anyone to investigate Leni Robredo for helping the front liners and the needy. We are thankful to everyone for helping, including the VP,” he added.

Even Interior Secretary Eduardo Año was befuddled by Luna’s statement. “”Parang wala naman ako nakikitang violation doon. I look at the Bayanihan Act, parang wala naman siya violation doon. Sa tingin ko naman, anybody can provide assistance as long as mayroon kang coordination sa government agency, para wala ka namang tinatapakan,” Año said.

Luna, an abogado, said Robredo should be probed for “ for illegal solicitations, actions that compete with, or calculated to undermine, national government efforts in this time of public health emergency or national calamity, such as OVP’s free shuttle service and dormitories for health workers, and PPEs for health workers, which may be in violation of the NDRRMC Law and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, the Solicitation Permit Law and Related Issuances, the measures and protocols of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emergent Infectious Diseases (IATFEID) to arrest the spread of SARS-CoV-2, and for accounting.”

Luna claimed Robredo was part of government and was “barred from competing with the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Office of Civil Defence, or undermining their efforts, and from soliciting donations, in cash or in kind, from the taxpaying public, especially since funds have already been appropriated or set aside for relief assistance, disaster mitigation, rehabilitation, etc.”

Robredo’s spokesperson said Luna’s statement was “so ridiculous, inappropriate, out of touch, he had to verify if it was really true.”
