Ayaw magisa? Calida snubs Senate hearing on ABS-CBN

Solicitor General Jose Calida skipped the Senate hearing on ABS-CBN’s franchise Monday (February 24), citing the petition he filed against the network before the Supreme Court.

“Considering that the issues to be discussed in the public hearing is sub judice, it is with much regret that I respectfully decline your invitation,” Calida said in a letter addressed to Senator Grace Poe, chairperson of the Senate committee on public services which held the hearing.

Calida asked the Supreme Court to nullify ABS-CBN’s current franchise through a quo warranto petition filed before the Supreme Court. He followed this with a request for the tribunal to gag the network and other parties to the case.

Poe said she expected Calida to snub the hearing but added that her committee was able to get the information it needed.

“The resource persons that we had were able to shed light on those questions, with or without the solicitor general present here,” she told reporters after the hearing.
