Skipping the commemoration rites of the 33rd anniversary of the People Power Revolution on February 25 is President Rodrigo Duterte’s choice, Vice President Leni Robredo said Saturday (February 22).
Robredo made the statement after Malacañang said Duterte will “most likely” snub any event to mark the occasion.
“Ito kasi, choice niya naman. Wala namang pinipilit na mag-attend ng commemoration,” she told reporters at the sidelines of an event commemorating the anniversary of the People Power Revolution in Naga City.
Robredo marked the anniversary of the bloodless uprising against the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in Camarines Sur while several Liberal Party stalwarts, including members of the “Otso Diretso” senatorial slate and former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, marked the event at the People Power shrine in EDSA.
Despite being the LP’s chairperson, Robredo sought to disassociate the party’s color, yellow, with the People Power Revolution.
“Iyong sa atin lang, sana ma-break lang iyong misconception na iyong EDSA ay mga ‘dilawan.’ Dahil tingin ko, kapag ganito iyong pagtingin natin, insulto ito sa napakaraming mga Pilipino na wala namang political affiliations noong 1986, na wala namang kulay na nagde-define sa kanila, pero tumulong para isikwal iyong kasamaan,” she said.
The term “dilawan” is used to refer to LP members and their allies.
