Prominent stalwarts of the once powerful Liberal Party have decided to cross party lines and joined the so-called “Super Majority Coalition” in the House of Representatives dominated by the allies of President Duterte.

A total of 12 LP members decided to cast their vote in favor House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano during Monday’s formal opening of the first regular session of the 18th Congress.

Among those LP stalwarts who voted for Cayetano include the party’s former secretary-general, Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice and Cavite Rep. Francis Gerald Abaya.

Erice was the campaign manager and spokesman of losing LP senatorial bet Mar Roxas while Abaya is the younger brother former Transportation Sec. Joseph Emilio “Jun” Abaya.

Other LP solons who joined the majority bloc now rebranded by Cayetano as “Diehard Duterte Super Majority” include Reps. Emmanuel Billones (Capiz), Edgar Chatto (Bohol), Raul del Mar (Cebu City), Cheryl Deloso-Montalla (Zambales), Mujiv Hataman (Basilan), Kid Peña (Makati City), Josephine Ramirez-Sato (Mindoro Occidental), Edgar Mary Sarmiento (Western Samar), and Alfonso Umali Jr. (Mindoro Oriental).

Umali is a former national treasurer of LP.

Erice earlier explained that majority of LP solons are planning to join the new House Majority prior to the opening of the 18th Congress last Monday.
