Ayaw paawat! Roque starts shooting campaign ads despite Press Secretary offer
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque is bent on running for senator despite his poor showing in pre-election surveys and a lucrative job offer from President Rodrigo Duterte.
Politiko learned that Roque has begun shooting a television campaign ad ahead of the start of the filing of certificates of candidacy on October 11.
According to a source, Roque’s shoot took place on Saturday (October 6) at a studio in Makati City and along Delpan Street in Tondo, Manila.
Given the hefty price tag that comes with producing a campaign ad, it remains to be seen whether Roque will be convinced to drop his senatorial bid when he talks with Duterte on Sunday (October 7).
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Duterte wants Roque to postpone his political plans for 2022 and instead head the soon to be revived Office of the Press Secretary.
Roque has been coy about his political plans despite being named as a prospective senatorial candidate of Duterte’s party, PDP-Laban.
Results of Pulse Asia’s pre-election survey conducted in September showed Roque ranked between 29th to 36th place in the senatorial race.
In a speech on October 4, Duterte offered Roque a new job because he believes his spokesperson doesn’t have a chance to win in the 2019 polls.
“Si Roque gusto mag senador. Sabi ko, ‘Tama ka na. T*** i** diyan. Standby ka’,” he said. “Bigyan kita ibang trabaho. Hindi ka manalo diyan.”
