Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban is convinced that former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will file a motion for reconsideration over the decision of the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), to dismiss his electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.
In his May 2 column for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Panganiban noted that Marcos appears to be a viable candidate in the 2022 presidential race based on results of Pulse Asia’s latest survey. The poll showed the former senator in second place behind Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Robredo, meanwhile, was ranked sixth.
“While I cannot imagine how a 15-0 decision could be reversed, still I think Bongbong will file an MR even if only to strengthen his political stock for the 2022 elections,” Panganiban said.
The PET junked Marcos’ protest for lack of merit due to his failure to prove cheating happened in the 2016 elections.
Robredo won over Marcos with a little over 200,000 votes.
