Senator Grace Poe has expressed concern over the “high and unforgiving bar” set by the House of Representatives after it rejected ABS-CBN’s franchise application.
In a statement Friday (July 10), Poe said both the news and entertainment content consumed by the public will be affected by ABS-CBN’s failure to return to air.
“The House has indeed set a high and unforgiving bar in approving franchises. This may affect current active franchises,” she said.
Voting 70-11, the House committee adopted the resolution denying ABS-CBN’s franchise application following exhaustive hearings on the network’s alleged legal violations.
Poe said that while ABS-CBN has its shortcomings, it also provides “valuable” service to the public.
“The correct – and constitutional – response is to allow it to remedy them, the same chance extended to thousands of franchise applicants,” she said.
